Advice from a seasoned wedding celebrant
Having worked in the industry for more than a decade, I've had the privilege of witnessing countless couples tie the knot. On the surface, days are filled with fun, happiness and laughter. But behind the scenes, wedding day nerves can creep up. These are totally normal! It's one of the biggest days of your life - so it's only natural to feel a little jittery. I'm sharing a few ways to calm wedding day nerves, so you can enjoy your day as much as possible.
Ways to calm wedding day nerves
Breathe
It might sound simple, but sometimes we need this reminder. Whenever you start to feel overwhelmed, find a quiet space, close your eyes and focus on your breath. Breathe in deeply through your nose, then exhale slowly through your mouth, releasing any tension as you do. Repeat this process as long as you need to bring a sense of calm to your mind and body.
Practice mindfulness
Mindfulness is about being in the moment. Take some time out of your busy wedding day schedule to practice mindfulness and enjoy the many moments of your day. Find a quiet spot to sit, close your eyes, and allow yourself to simply exist. Just like breathwork, by grounding yourself in the moment, you'll feel more centred and calm.
Get support
The best thing about your wedding day, is that you're surrounded by friends and family who care about you. Lean on your support network for encouragement, reassurance, or to be an ear. Whether it's a pep talk from your maid of honour, a reassuring hug from your mum, or a joke with your best man, the people closest to you can help you feel better.
Visualise success
Take a few moments to yourself, close your eyes, and visualise your ceremony unfolding perfectly. Picture yourself walking down the aisle with ease, exchanging vows with your partner, and dancing the night away after. Visualising creates a positive mindset that can carry you through any nerves.
Trust the process
Your wedding day is the culmination of months or years of planning and anticipation. Trust in the process and have faith that everything will unfold exactly as it's meant to. You've planned this day down to every last detail - it's now time to hand over trust to your vendors, planners, and each other. At the end of the day, it's not about the flowers, the cake, or the speeches, it's about the two of you committing to a lifetime together.
With these five simple yet effective tips, you can calm those wedding day nerves and ensure your day is nothing short of incredible. Remember - wedding day nerves are completely normal and they happen to everyone. They're nothing to feel guilty about. I'm always here to support you every step of the way - so let's make some great memories together!
